According to CNBC, Sprint and T-Mobile are once again talking about a merger deal. The two companies most recently ended discussions about a potential merger in November, saying they couldn't reach a deal. The merger has been complicated previously by tension between Deutsche Telekom, which owns 63 percent of T-Mobile, and SoftBank, which owns 85 percent of Sprint.
T-Mobile and Sprint are currently the United States' third- and fourth-largest wireless carriers, respectively. The two are well behind AT&T and Verizon, but a merger could help them scale and compete.
According to Reuters, the combined company would have more than 127 million customers.
