Super Bowl Sunday isn't just a busy day for your local pizza and wing restaurant--it's also a big day for cell phone providers, especially in the host city.
That's why for Sunday's big game between the Patriots and Rams, Verizon has
invested $97 million in the Atlanta area to ensure safety and clear communication for those in the area.
“We’re going to have a huge influx of people. It’ll be greater than any Falcons game, than any Atlanta United game we’ve had in recent history,” Steve Regitz, Verizon’s Director of System Performance, told WSB-TV in Atlanta. “We’ve tried to make sure Atlanta has all the latest technology.”
Verizon has deployed more than 650 network enhancements to increase capacity and improve coverage throughout the city, including antennas near the stadium and Olympic Park which double the immediate area's signal capacity.
“They need to be able to use their devices to make phone calls,” Regitz said. “They need those to be able to use those devices to send messages, trade videos and pictures with each other about things that are going on (and) send out emergency messages so everyone’s aware about situations that are developing around the city.”
