The iPhone X launched with much fanfare, featuring a stunning design, gorgeous screen, and improved camera. But is it also causing concern for wireless providers like Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint?
Apple is selling versions of the phone with no traditional SIM card installed, which makes it easier for customers to switch providers and also gives them more reason to buy directly from Apple rather than, say, your local Verizon store.
The SIM card-less iPhone X will instead use an embedded electronic version of the card (e-SIM) that performs the same functions as the traditional removable SIM card.
"The upshot is that with an e-SIM, consumers can shop for the best wireless data plan and switch service providers instantly, without visiting retail stores," writes Reinhardt Krause of Investor's Business Daily.
