5G wireless residential broadband services could be on their way to you at some point in 2018...if you're lucky enough to live in one of three to five markets, the majority of which have yet to be announced.
"As a first application of fifth-generation – or 5G -- wireless, these services will use radio signals, rather than copper or fiber cables, to provide customers with unprecedented wireless speeds for Internet access,"
Verizon said in a statement. "As 5G continues to evolve, customers will benefit from a wide array of services – including broadband, mobile and IoT (Internet of things) -- and the necessary bandwidth and low latency for 3D and virtual reality applications."
The first launch is planned for Sacramento, Calif., during the second half of next year, with the remaining cities to be announced at a later date. The company hopes to eventually target 25-30% of all broadband households, which is around 30 million homes.
