Chinese telecom company Huawei is back in the news, as mobile networks in Asian and Europe have decided to suspend orders for the company's smartphones. This comes on the heels of the United States' decision last week to restrict Huawei's access to American technology.
Huawei can no longer source software or components from U.S. suppliers without a license. While existing Huawei devices out in the world are unaffected by the restrictions, the decisions do threaten future products.
The U.S. decision also forced Google to cut Huawei's devices off from the Android ecosystem, meaning users no longer have access to popular apps like Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps. Even ride-sharing or food delivery apps that rely on Google Maps will no longer function for Huawei devices.
