The Hawaiki Transpacific Submarine Cable System is live, connecting the United States with Australia and New Zealand. The cable has three fibers--two between the US and Australia, and one between the US and New Zealand.
"Hawaiki is the fastest and largest cross-sectional capacity link between the US and Australia and New Zealand. It will significantly enhance our connectivity to the rest of the world and, ultimately, improve the everyday lives of our communities," CEO Remi Galasso said,
according to ZDNet.
The cable is a "game-changer" for the Pacific islands, according to American Samoa Governor Lolo M. Moliga. The system also includes branches for some nearby islands--including American Samoa.
"We are already receiving and reviewing proposals from companies locally and from off-island for the establishment of business activities dependent on reliable, affordable, and high-speed internet connectivity," Moliga said.
